Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority

DANVILLE, Virginia- The Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority (DRHA) has been awarded Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) to build a 52-unit apartment complex for seniors. DRHA is pleased to have partnered with Landmark Asset Services, Inc., to develop the $11.5 million project on the adjacent property near Jones Crossing. Landmark is well versed in developing LIHTC properties, having completed over 85 developments throughout nine states.

Always innovative in their approach and materials used in the look and feel of their cost-efficient housing, Landmark will develop the complex from the ground up. The property will feature 34 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom apartments. To lower residents’ utility costs, the apartments will be highly energy efficient and meet Earthcraft Gold Certification. In addition, the apartments will be packed with amenities specifically designed for seniors, including floorplans designed for one-level living, a fully accessible elevator, a community room with a kitchenette for resident gatherings, an exercise room, a computer center with high-speed internet, and in-unit washer/dryer hook-ups.

The apartments were also designed with accessibility in mind. 100% of the units will meet Virginia Housing’s Universal Design Standards. This means the units will be designed to promote aging-in-place.

Sam Sari, Vice President of Landmark, stated: “We feel honored to be a part of this transformational project. We look forward to providing these new homes to the community’s most vulnerable seniors. Many thanks to DRHA, the City of Danville, and Virginia Housing for making this possible.”

While it is exciting to have been awarded funding, it is equally rewarding to know that DRHA will now be able to help make up for the loss of the senior affordable housing units at Dan River Crossing. Larissa Deedrich, the CEO and Executive Director of DRHA, commented, “This housing opportunity would not be possible without the support of the City of Danville, the DRHA commissioners, Virginia Housing, and the surrounding community. These homes will be an amazing opportunity for seniors to enjoy a quiet, peaceful community that is affordable and attractive. I am proud to be a part of this opportunity and look forward to helping fill this need in Danville."

This win is not only for DRHA but for the community, as DRHA continues to offer ways to bring affordable housing options to the City of Danville. We will continue to provide more updates as the development unfolds.
